Get Your Home Ready For Storm Season

5/23/2021 (Permalink)

It’s been a dreary few weeks here in Fall River, MA. We’ve had rain almost all week and more rain is projected in the forecast. Now is the perfect time to make sure your Sump Pump is ready for heavy rain! The purpose of a Sump Pump is to remove excess water from storms (or pipe breaks) away from your home. But what happens when the pump stops working? The water then can begin to accumulate in your basement. If you have a finished basement, this is even more of a headache.

Here are a few tips to make sure that your pump is in working order:

  • Make sure it’s properly plugged in. Inspect all electrical equipment to ensure there is no damage to wires or cords.
  • Check for debris in the basin, especially leaves or mud. Remove as needed.
  • Make sure the float can freely move and isn’t stuck to the basin’s side.
  • Test the pump by slowly adding a bucket of water to the basin until the float rises. The pump should successfully turn on.
  • Test the batteries on the battery operated back-up pump. Also inspect the battery operated pump the same way mentioned above for an electrical pump.

In the event that your Sump Pump fails, SERVPRO of Fall River is here to help. Our technicians are highly trained to complete a cleanup and make it “Like it never even happened.” We provide 24-Hour Emergency Service, so never hesitate to call us! (508) 676-9100.
