The month of May is National BBQ Month! Is there anything better than grilled food on a summer day? Just the smell alone is extremely nostalgic in my opinion! Whether I’m cooking hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken or even pizza, the grill is a culinary staple all throughout the warmer months.
As the weather gets warmer in New England and we begin to uncover and dust off our grills, the SERVPRO of Fall River team would like to share some grilling safety tips!
According to the National Fire Protection Association, fire departments around the US reported to an average of 8,900 fires associated to backyard grilling! About half of those fires resulted in structural damage to homes. The NFPA recommends grills are kept clean and closely monitored, among other great tips. Grills should be placed away from your home, deck railings, low hanging tree branches and should never be placed under awnings. The hose on your propane tank should be checked yearly for leaks, which can be done by applying warm, soapy water to the hose and inspecting for bubbles. If using a charcoal grill, the NFPA recommends letting coals cool completely before attempting to dispose of them.
