Children & The Dangers of Cooking - Fall River 02720

As busy parents, we are often trying to multi-task, especially around dinner time. Trying to entertain children while making dinner can be a tough challenge. Your little ones may want to help or be prone to running around the kitchen area while you focus on mealtime. This can cause many unforeseen injuries, some that can cause lifelong scars; both physically and mentally.
In 2011 an estimated 136,000 children were seen in emergency rooms for burn injuries, according to the American Burn Foundation and more than 1,100 children die each year from burn injuries.
One way to help prevent these types of injuries is to establish a “no-kid zone.” This is commonly around the stove, oven, and areas where there may be cords attached to crock pots, fryers, or coffee makers.
Pots and pans should be placed on back burners with handles turned away from the front of the stove.
If a child does sustain a burn, use cool - not cold - water to stop the burning process. Remove all clothing from the injured area and cover the burn with a clean dry sheet or bandages. Seek medical attention immediately to ensure the burn is treated properly.
Establishing safe kitchen guidelines will help eliminate injuries and minimize stress during mealtime.
Not only that, but it will also help minimize the risk of kitchen fires, the leading cause of residential fires.
Remember to keep your kids out of the kitchen. But if accidents happen, you can trust the fire damage restoration professionals at SERVPRO of Fall River.
