The sun is out and so are the grills! If you’re anything like most south-coasters, you’ve been grilling outside since the weather hit 55 degrees. There’s nothing like it!
While we’re just like anyone else that enjoys a good barbecued meal, it’s important to take the correct precautions before dubbing yourself as the Grill Master — such as making sure your grill is at least 10 feet away from your home or structure.
The truth is, accidents happen. Sometimes it’s a stroke of bad luck where sparks turn into explosions with the help of propane tanks. Other times its simple distractions, like pets or kids that occupy our attention for a second too long. No matter the cause, the outcome is the same and ends with a fire that can damage your home or worse, you and your guests.
Per fire prevention officials, It’s recommended to keep grills, fireplaces, and any open flames at least 10 feet away and at a safe distance from your home or structure. Officials also recommend having a fire extinguisher handy in case the flames get to be too much.
When disposing of coals and ashes, make sure to properly extinguish the fire with water and place the ashes in a metal bin. Trust us, there’s nothing that ruins a cookout more than a fire that's gotten to be too big for its grill.
When disasters such as these happen, the important thing is to call 911 first, and then your local SERVPRO of Fall River. Our technicians are trained in fire and smoke damage restoration and will make sure your grilling season isn’t completely ruined by making your disaster, “Like it never even happened.”
